Considerations When Choosing a Removalist for Self Storage

Using a removalist to move items into your unit at Hippo’s Mordialloc self storage site? There are a number of factors to keep in mind. Two main ones, among other things, include price and quality of service.

First, let’s consider price. If you decide to use a removalist, obviously price is important. When you obtain quotes, ensure that you address all charges and read the fine print of the terms and conditions. Sometimes, in addition to an hourly rate, removalists may have other charges such as a fuel levy and a “back to base” fee. It is also worth clarifying what happens if, for example, the job finishes 15 minutes into the next hour. Do they charge for the extra 15 minutes or for an entire additional hour?

Cost is certainly important and a key consideration when choosing a removalist for self storage. However, beware of going with the cheapest option solely on the basis of price. The saying “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys” may hold true. The cheapest option may, for instance, be slower than a more expensive option resulting in costs evening out. Alternatively, they may not handle items being moved with care resulting in damage. Furthermore (and we think this one is important!), they may pack your unit inefficiently meaning that you are able to fit less into you shipping container storage unit.

Thus, quality of service is another important consideration when selecting a removalist. Do they handle items with care? Do they arrive on time to the job and communicate courteously and effectively? Are they efficient both in terms of time and the way they pack a self storage unit? Are they properly insured? These are all important to keep in mind and can make a more “expensive” removalist a better choice. This is not to say that more expensive removalists are a better choice than cheaper ones in and of itself, but rather that price is only one of many points to keep in mind.

So how do you know if a removalist offers high quality service? Google reviews are a good starting point (particularly if there are a lot of them, which gives more credibility to the overall review score). Another source of reviews may be Trustpilot.
