How does Hippo Self Storage work?
Hippo Self Storage is a self storage facility that provides shipping containers as self storage units. The containers are set out in convenient rows at its storage facility in Mordialloc. These containers can be driven up to by cars, trailers and trucks in order to facilitate convenient loading and unloading of goods being stored. The containers can be accessed at any time during opening hours.
Hippo Self Storage also offers outdoor storage of items such as cars, boats, caravans, trailers and machinery.

Hippo Self Storage offers three different sizes of shipping containers as storage units.
Most of the self storage units are 20ft shipping containers. These are by far the most popular option because of their large size and space making them suitable for a range of self storage requirements such as domestic storage of household goods and business storage. 20ft shipping container specifications are as follows:
Internal dimensions: Approximately 5.9 metres long by 2.3 metres wide by 2.4 metres high
Area: Approximately 14 square metres
Volume: Approximately 33 cubic metres
Hippo Self Storage also have 10ft shipping containers available as self storage units, which are approximately half the size of 20ft containers. They are a convenient and cost effective alternative when less items need to be stored while still providing a spacious self storage option. 10ft shipping container specifications are as follows:
Internal dimensions: Approximately 2.8 metres long by 2.3 metres wide by 2.4 metres high
Area: Approximately 6.5 square metres
Volume: Approximately 15 cubic metres
There are also 8ft shipping containers available as storage units, which are slightly smaller than the 10ft containers. They are again a convenient and cost effective alternative when less items need to be stored. 8ft shipping container specifications are as follows:
Internal dimensions: Approximately 2.3 metres long by 2.1 metres wide by 2.06 metres high
Area: Approximately 5 square metres
Volume: Approximately 10 cubic metres
The shipping containers are of robust steel construction. Hippo Self Storage has purchased the containers as “new builds” meaning they have only done one trip from the country of manufacture to Australia and are in excellent condition. HOW MUCH Storage space do i need?
The Self Storage Association of Australasia (SSAA) Space Estimator can help you easily estimate how much storage space you will need.
As mentioned above, Hippo Self Storage offers 20ft containers with an approximate volume of 33 cubic metres, 10 ft containers with an approximate volume of 15 cubic metres and 8ft containers, with an approximate volume of 10 cubic metres.
In addition to being the largest, the 20ft shipping containers are the most versatile self storage unit. Their large size enables long and bulky items to be stored conveniently. If you would like some assistance in determining storage space requirements, we would be happy to assist.
How do i move my items into and out of self storage?
There are several options available to move items into and out of our storage units.
Firstly, a removalist can be used. Hippo Self Storage has a number of removalist contacts and would be happy to provide their details to you if you would like to obtain some extra quotes. Alternatively, some customers hire a truck, trailer or use their own vehicle.
At our Mordialloc self storage facility, the storage units are in neat rows allowing for easy access to load and unload items.
What is the minimum storage duration?
There is no minimum storage duration. Whether you are looking for short term self storage (for example, one week) or long term self storage, we are happy to help. The key thing to remember is the limited access hours at our Mordialloc self storage site of 9am to 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays (excluding public holidays).
Does Hippo Self Storage sell packaging materials?

Does Hippo Self Storage offer outdoor storage as well?
Yes Hippo Self Storage’s Mordialloc site offers outdoor car storage, boat storage, caravan storage, trailer storage and machinery storage. The storage spaces can be easily reversed into allowing for convenient access.
For those wanting to store cars and other items being delivered via a tilt tray tow truck, there are a number of spaces with sufficient reversing room allowing for convenient unloading and loading.
